I persevered right to the end with this book why I m not sure There s no substance to the main character Lydia that made her believable or likeable found her character very irritating at timesThe Duke is wooden and again lacks substance not much can be said there I don t know how Lydia s friend Jenny didn t deck her for her arrogance and lack of sensitivityThere is very little romance the book just drones on and on and on then low and behold he canters across the park on his steed nope again a bit of a non event but they do finally get it together the end Flat unimaginative story not in the least bit romantic or entertaining

I started this book with high hopes of a relaxing evening After the first couple of chapters I needed to stop It felt like a simplified and dumbed down version of a true historical fiction novel I can t uite pin down what went wrong but it seemed like research in the time period was lacking conversation between characters was one dimensionsal and things were over explained This is the first review I ve written and I want to encourage the author to take a little time on her writing and try to get the conversations between characters to flow a little smoother It shows a lot of promise but it needs a little work
